Clinical medicine, related to patient care and science in the strict sense are team disciplines. At this point, I mention my University, Hospital, and above all my team with whom I work on a daily basis – said Prof. Bartosz Karaszewski, receiving the award. – I get two satisfactions from my professional life. The first one is related to managing individual patients, because when they can be helped, we help them. The second I call the sustainable effect in the context of the social gain associated with the health of the population. It is a great satisfaction that we leave behind something, e.g. a new standard of conduct, a new method, a change in the health care system, which means that a group of people will permanently enjoy a longer life and fitness.

The team led by Prof. Karaszewski, a new therapeutic method of stroke treatment, thanks to which, in the first patient in the world treated with the proposed scheme, all the symptoms of acute stroke disappeared, which takes into account the so-called NIHSS scale. The competition jury also awarded a special prize – the Medal of the Tri-City Card, which went to the Fahrenheit Universities for cooperation and actions taken to make the best use of the potential of three member universities. The statuette was received by the Rector of the MUG Prof. Marcin Gruchała, Chairman of the Assembly of the FarU together with the Vice-Rector of the UG Prof. Sylwia Mrozowska and Vice-Rector of the Gdańsk Tech Prof. Barbara Wikieł. The medal can be awarded to persons, companies and institutions that have contributed most to the implementation of the postulates of the Tri-City Charter signed in 2007 on the initiative of Gazeta Wyborcza Trójmiasto by the Mayors of Gdańsk, Gdynia and Sopot and the then Marshal of the Voivodeship. The sculpture is in the shape of an equilateral triangle with the names of the cities: Gdańsk, Sopot, Gdynia on its vertices, and its form is to symbolize their equality and, at the same time, the necessity of coexistence.

Thank you for noticing and appreciating our cooperation initiative – emphasized Prof. Marcin Gruchała, Rector of the Medical University of Gdańsk, Chairman of the Assembly of the Fahrenheit Universities. – Our goal is to create a strong, globally visible academic centre in Pomerania, which will be a magnet attracting the most talented people to work and study here.
