UCMTM rated the best clinical hospital in Poland

In the rating published in the Menadżer Zdrowia (Eng. Health Manager) journal, which provides a comprehensive assessment of the activities of university hospitals in Poland, the University Centre of Maritime and Tropical Medicine (UCMTM), a hospital of the Medical University of Gdańsk, was ranked as the best clinical hospital in Poland. The study covered 29 Polish university hospitals, analysing different types of medical services and hospitalisation trends between 2018 and 2023. The hospital rating is direct continuation of the 2023 edition of the Ranking Szpitali Klinicznych, expanded with additional medical data and financial indicators, allowing for a more comprehensive evaluation of university hospitals in Poland.

The analysis distinguished two groups of hospitals: the best-performing ones, which scored 8 points and those with the lowest results, scoring only 2 points. The University Centre of Maritime and Tropical Medicine in Gdynia ranked at the top of the list among seven highest-rated institutions with the maximum score. The University Clinical Centre, also a hospital of the Medical University of Gdańsk, was included in the first group, with a score of 6 points.

According to the authors, the highest-rated clinical hospitals combine effective cost management with the development of medical services, investment in infrastructure, and the creation of attractive conditions for both researchers and patients. The final score of each institution was determined on the basis of indicators such as debt, financial liquidity, and the growth dynamics of both comprehensive and basic medical services.

Data for the rating was obtained from a publication by the Unia Szpitali Klinicznych (Eng. Union of Clinical Hospitals), containing detailed information on the economic situation of hospitals. Additionally, an analysis of the Narodowy Fundusz Zdrowia (Eng. National Health Fund) database was conducted, covering hospitalisation data, patient profiles and admission modes. The analysis used the proprietary tool BISmartHospital, which enables comprehensive processing of financial and medical data.
