Carinthia University of Applied Sciences (Villach, Austria), one of Gdańsk Medical University’s partners within the ACE²-EU alliance, invites you to participate in the event Research in Communication: Training & Science Slam.

This is a three-day intensive training program designed for early-career researchers, providing participants with practical skills in science communication and preparing them to present their research to a broad, non-scientific audience.

The final event, Science Slam, challenges participants to present their research in an engaging and accessible manner to the general public. The audience will vote for the most compelling talk. Each speaker will have only 6 minutes!

Program Schedule

  • Online part:
first or second week of September 2025 (tbc)

  • On-site part:
    September 22–23, 2025 (Villach, Austria)

The Medical University of Gdańsk may nominate two participants. Participants may be either individuals or teams of two. We welcome applications from students, PhD candidates, and researchers within 5 years after obtaining their doctoral degree. To apply, please send the following by August 10, 2025, to science.communication@gumed.edu.pl: full name, title/area of your research project, a short popular-science description of your research (max. 150 words, a slide or illustration may also be included).

From the submitted applications, a selection committee composed of representatives from the Project Office, the Department of International Relations, and the Science Communication Coordinator will choose the most promising submissions to be recommended for participation in Research in Communication: Training & Science Slam.

Participation in the onsite part of the program in Austria will be funded through the ERASMUS+ program.

The first edition of the Science Slam took place in May last year. Young researchers from Austria, Slovenia, and Portugal presented their work in Villach. A recap of the event is available at https://athenauni.eu/recap-of-cuas-1st-international-science-slam-with-athena-partners/
