MUG representative participates in the “International Neurology Conference 2025” in Singapore

2.07.2025

Justyna Fercho, M.D., Ph.D. from Department Emergency Medicine at the Medical University of Gdańsk, who is also affiliated with the Lung Transplantation Unit of the University Clinical Centre (UCC) and the Department of Innovation, Analytics, and Implementation of Medical Technologies at the UCC, represented the University at the International Neurology Conference 2025, held in Singapore.

In addition, she serves as the academic supervisor of the Student Scientific Circle of Neurotraumatology at the MUG’s Department of Emergency Medicine.

During the conference, she presented research findings on the application of artificial intelligence methods for predicting the risk of intracranial aneurysm rupture. The study, based on clinical data collected at the University Clinical Centre in Gdańsk, demonstrated the efficacy of machine learning models in risk stratification – achieving predicted rupture probabilities ranging from 57.2% to 92.2%, and sensitivities between 0.61 and 1.0. These results point to a promising future for AI-assisted diagnostics in clinical neurology.

Her presentation, entitled Application of Artificial Intelligence Methods in Predicting the Likelihood of Intracranial Aneurysm Rupture to Support Clinical Decision Making, was met with recognition and appreciation by the international scientific community.

The interdisciplinary research team also included:
Dariusz Szplit – Department of Quality in Healthcare, MUG
Jacek Szypenbejl, M.D., Ph.D. – Department of Emergency Medicine, MUG
Tomasz Szmuda, M.D., Ph.D., D.Sc. – Department of Neurosurgery, MUG
Prof. Mariusz Siemiński – Head of the Department of Emergency Medicine, MUG
• Medical students from the Faculty of Medicine: Michalina Dudra, Weronika Jagieło and Klaudia Kokot.

Participation in this high-profile conference highlights both the scientific excellence of the Department of Emergency Medicine at the MUG and the active engagement of the Neurotraumatology Student Scientific Circle in advancing medical research and innovation.
