EJTCM in the Web of Science database

19.06.2025

After a nearly five-year application process, in its eighth year of publication, the GUMed scientific journal European Journal of Translational and Clinical Medicine is officially accepted for indexing in the Web of Science™ Core Collection (WoS) database by Clarivate. Articles published from 2023 onwards, starting with Vol. 6, No. 1, were included in the Emerging Sources Citation Index (ESCI) in early May. Our journal has a chance to obtain an Impact Factor in the future. This is important news for authors publishing in EJTCM because that they can count on greater visibility of their articles, and consequently – an increase in the number of citations and the Hirsch index. It is worth adding that works registered in WoS may be important in the course of scientific advancement and the assessment of scientific achievements at their institutions and in grant competitions.

About Web of Science and Emerging Sources Citation Index

The Web of Science platform is considered the most authoritative, publisher-independent global citation database. Indexing in this database is a kind of seal of quality. The Web of Science Core Collection includes 10 indexes – databases containing information collected from thousands of scientific journals, books, publishing series and conferences. The most extensive is the multidisciplinary Science Citation Index Expanded (SCIE), the other databases are: Social Sciences Citation Index (SSCI; social sciences), Arts & Humanities Citation Index (arts and humanities), Emerging Sources Citation Index (emerging journals), Conference Proceedings Citation Index – Science and Conference Proceedings Citation Index – Social Sciences & Humanities (conference materials), Book Citation – Science and Book Citation – Social Sciences & Humanities (books), Current Chemical Reactions and Index Chemicus (chemistry).

The Emerging Sources Citation Index, which includes EJTCM, was established in 2015 by Thomson Reuters specifically for emerging journals, i.e. new to the publishing market. The expert evaluation covered EJTCM issues published since 2018. All journals from the ESCI database are subject to the same indexing rules as those from other indexes: the journal is indexed in its entirety, each record has the same set of data (including the bibliography), and the same search options apply. However, the simplified mode of accepting journals has its drawbacks. The Impact Factor is not calculated for journals from the ESCI, and citations are not taken into account when calculating this indicator for journals. Inclusion in the ESCI does not guarantee advancement to one of the more prestigious citation indexes. Journals from this database are periodically re-evaluated and only on this basis the experts decide on inclusion in SCIE/SSCI and calculation of the Impact Factor, retention in ESCI or termination of indexing.
