FarU Immunology Meeting – a new chapter in the history of scientific collaboration in Gdańsk
16.06.2025
On Saturday, 7th June 2025, a unique scientific conference – the FarU Immunology Meeting – was held at the Intercollegiate Faculty of Biotechnology UG&MUG, This was the first event of its kind in Poland, bringing together the academic communities of all three universities forming the Daniel Fahrenheit Union of Universities in Gdańsk (FarU).
The initiator and coordinator of the conference was
Danuta Gutowska-Owsiak, Ph.D., D.Sc. from the Laboratory of Experimental and Translational Immunology at the Intercollegiate Faculty of Biotechnology UG&MUG. The event was organised by
Katarzyna Lisowska, Ph.D., D.Sc. and
Anna Wardowska, Ph.D., D.Sc. from the Department of Pathophysiology at the MUG;
Tomasz Ślebioda, Ph.D., D.Sc. from the Department of Histology at the MUG; as well as
Weronika Hewelt-Belka, Ph.D. Eng., D.Sc. from the Department of Analytical Chemistry at the Gdańsk University of Technology. The organisational team was also supported by students and doctoral candidates:
Martyna Misztal,
Reza Abouali,
Mikołaj Klimczuk,
Aniela Kosobucka, and
Argho Aninda Paul.
The conference programme included four thematic scientific sessions dedicated to clinical, experimental, translational immunology, and collaboration among research teams. Lectures were delivered by researchers from all three FarU member universities. The event provided an important platform for the integration of the Tri-City scientific community, the exchange of research experiences, and the strengthening of relationships while promoting interdisciplinary collaboration among FarU academic units.
The highlight of the meeting was the keynote lecture by
Prof. Graham Ogg from the University of Oxford, a world-renowned expert in immunology and dermatology. Prof. Ogg delivered a lecture entitled
Lipid-reactive T cells and the skin: biology and therapeutic relevance, which drew great interest from the participants.
Young researchers from the Tri-City area had the opportunity to present their work during the poster session, in which the best posters were awarded prizes made possible through the support of the companies Becton Dickinson, BioLike, Merck, and Promega.
Nearly 100 participants registered for the conference, which was free of charge thanks to the commitment of sponsors and the support of the Daniel Fahrenheit Union of Universities in Gdańsk. The event was held under the honorary patronages of
Prof. Michał Markuszewski, Rector of the MUG;
Prof. Piotr Stepnowski, Rector of the UG; and the Polish Society of Experimental and Clinical Immunology.
The FarU Immunology Meeting is a new and promising addition to the map of scientific events in Poland, which, even in its inaugural edition, confirmed the vital importance of collaboration and integration in the advancement of modern science.
