Another meeting organised by the NeuroGDA, with the support of the Fahrenheit Universities, took place in Sopot. On 9th May members of the academic community of the Medical University of Gdańsk, Gdańsk University of Technology and the University of Gdańsk gathered at Hotel Eureka to network with fellow scientists, exchange ideas, and engage in conversations in an informal setting.
– An initiative like NeuroGDA – an attempt to connect diverse ideas – is truly remarkable, especially because it’s a grassroots effort where many young researchers have a chance to meet someone who might become their mentor, showcase their ideas, and be heard – said Prof. Maria Mazurkiewicz-Bełdzińska, M.D., Ph.D., Head of the Division of Developmental Neurology at the University Clinical Centre (UCC), the Medical University of Gdańsk hospital.
The monthly NeuroGDA meetings are typically centred around presentations by two research groups. However, in response to numerous requests from participants, this time the organisers prepared a more extensive and integrative event. The evening featured science speed dating, a poster session and informal discussions in a friendly atmosphere aimed at fostering connections and encouraging interdisciplinary and inter-university collaboration.
– Neuroscience is an extremely interdisciplinary field of knowledge that requires collaboration between engineers, clinicians, and biologists who must work together to understand what is happening in the brain – to grasp its functions and to treat its disorders – noted Michał Kucewicz, Ph.D. of the Brain and Mind Electrophysiology Laboratory at Gdańsk University of Technology.
Launched in February this year, NeuroGDA serves as a platform uniting researchers focused on the nervous system (neuroscience) within the framework of the Fahrenheit Universities. The idea emerged during discussions between Dr. Habil. Ola Rutkowska of the Division of Anatomy and Neurobiology at the Medical University of Gdańsk and Krzysztof Basiński, Ph.D. of the Auditory Neuroscience Laboratory. In just under three months, nearly 150 individuals from all three member institutions have joined the initiative, and the number continues to grow. Among those involved are psychiatrists, neurologists, neurobiologists, neurosurgeons, geriatricians, psychologists, neuroscientists and researchers from related disciplines who are interested in scientific collaboration with their counterparts from the Medical University of Gdańsk, Gdańsk University of Technology and the University of Gdańsk.
The organisers are already planning upcoming meetings – The interest in the NeuroGDA itself, and in the Eureka event, far exceeded our expectations. While you can join NeuroGDA at any time, the enthusiasm for the Eureka meeting was so overwhelming that we had to close registration much earlier than anticipated – said Dr. Habil. Aleksandra Rutkowska.
– We already invite you to the next meeting, which will take place in mid-June at the UCC, the the Medical University of Gdańsk hospital. We share updates with NeuroGDA members via the NeuroGDA mailing list on Gaggle. If there is another event like the one at Eureka next year, we will announce it the same way – added Krzysztof Basiński, Ph.D..
