Scientific seminar "Clinical Diagnosis Tools – Biosensors and Biointerfaces"
We would like to invite you to the scientific seminar Clinical Diagnosis Tools – Biosensors and Biointerfaces, hosted by Dr Elisabete Fernandes from Piteira Research Group in International Iberian Nanotechnology Laboratory in Portugal. In this seminar on Clinical Diagnostic Tools – Biosensors and Biointerfaces, Dr. Elisabete Fernandes will present the critical intersection between biointerface engineering and clinical diagnostics, particularly in the context of patient stratification. A central focus will be on how the biointerface – the crucial boundary where biological recognition elements meet the sensor surface – fundamentally determines sensing performance, with special attention to biomolecule immobilization strategies. The seminar will demonstrate how these biointerface challenges were tackled using a magnetoresistive biosensor platform, showing how proper biointerface design enables reliable detection of cellular fibronectin within clinically relevant ranges while maintaining the stringent sensitivity requirements. During the presentation, Dr. Elisabete will share insights from her research journey and collaborative work at the Medical University of Gdańsk, emphasizing how understanding both the molecular interactions at the biointerface and the clinical needs has been crucial for developing practical diagnostic solutions.
The event is organised by the Department of Inorganic Chemistry, where Ms Fernandes is doing a research internship as part of the Incoming Research Grant programme.
