Medical University of Gdańsk (MUG) has once again claimed a top spot in the annual Cycling to work and school – Spin the kilometres for Gdańsk competition organized by the City of Gdańsk. The initiative promotes commuting to work, school, and university using bicycles or personal transport devices. In the 12th edition of the event, held from the beginning of September to the end of November 2024, the MUG secured second place in the University category thanks to the efforts of its staff, students and alumni.
The winner of the competition was the Academy of Tourism and Hospitality Management in Gdańsk, while the Academy of Physical Education and Sport claimed third place. MUG once again proved to be the best among all universities that are part of the Fahrenheit Union of Universities in Gdańsk.
A total of 96 participants represented the MUG. Points in the team competition were averaged per student. Collectively, the team covered 52,118.6 km in over 7,400 rides, burning approximately 1,700,000 kcal and reducing carbon dioxide emissions by 7.4 tons compared to car commutes.
Over the two months of the event, participants across all teams traveled more than 4.2 million kilometers, preventing the emission of 567 tons of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere.
