Assoc. Prof. Dr. Habil. Dorota Kilańska and acting head of the Division of Community Nursing & Health Promotion at the Medical University of Gdańsk (MUG), participated in a mission organised by the World Health Organization (WHO) in the Republic of Moldova.
The mission, conducted 11th to 15th NoNovember, aimed to provide Moldovan experts with insights into the organisation of nursing education systems and practices in other EU countries. It also focused on sharing EU member states’ experiences in harmonizing regulations during the accession process and fostering direct interactions with international experts. Additionally, the mission initiated the development of Moldova’s Action Plan for aligning its regulations with EU standards in the context of Directive 2005/36/EC.
The delegation consisted of international experts, including Maggie Langins (WHO Europe), Vlad Mixich (WHO Moldova), Dorota Kilańska (MUG), Beatrice Nimereanu (Romania), Zulfiya Pirova (WHO Europe), Martin Duignan (WHO), and Daniela Demiscan (WHO Moldova). They visited several institutions, including the Colegiu de Medicină Cahul, Clinical Universitara de Asistenta Medicala Primara (primary care facility), Moldova’s University of Medicine and Pharmacy, and the Centre of Excellence at Raisa Pacalo Medical College in Chisinau.
Key topics discussed during the visit included advancing nursing reforms, enhancing nurses’ roles in primary healthcare to improve service delivery, addressing significant gaps in educational curricula and postgraduate training and preparing an action plan and roadmap for nursing care in light of Moldova’s EU accession. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Habil. Dorota Kilańska shared Poland’s experience with EU accession and the adaptation of nursing education and legislation to meet EU requirements during meetings with representatives of Moldova’s Ministry of Health.
