Student Cardiological Academy at MUG

21.11.2024

A brand new project, the Student Cardiology Academy, has been launched at the Medical University of Gdańsk. Its aim is to combine education with research work. It is directed at medical students interested in cardiology. The participants of the Student Cardiology Academy have already attended the inaugural meeting, where they were introduced to the details of the programme, its topics and tasks for the upcoming weeks.

Paweł Siuciak, the project coordinator and a 6th-year medical student, emphasised that the Academy, which was created as part of the activities of the Student Scientific Circle of Hemodynamics, has two main pillars: educational and scientific. The educational component includes lectures, workshops, and classes based on the “students teaching students” principle. In this context, the focus is on fostering collaboration between Academy participants and making the sessions more interactive.

The scientific part involves working on research projects under the guidance of mentors. The results will be presented at conferences and published in scientific journals. Among the mentors are Prof. Ewa Lewicka, Dr. Habil. Agnieszka Zienciuk-Krajka, Natasza Gilis-Malinowska, M.D., Ph.D., *Maksymilian Mielczarek, M.D., Ph.D., Michał Bohdan, M.D., Ph.D., Witold Bachorski, M.D., Alicja Genc, M.D., Magdalena Bazgier, M.D. and Jarosław Meyer-Szary, M.D., Ph.D. The project is also coordinated by students and interns: Olga Wiśniewska, M.D., Natan Adamów, Mateusz Dźwil, Wiktoria Michnowska, and Krzysztof Gołacki. The academic supervision of the entire initiative is provided by Prof. Miłosz Jaguszewski and Dr. Jakub Sobolewski.

The energy, passion, and commitment of the mentors, coordinators, and participants form the foundation of the Student Cardiology Academy – said Paweł Siuciak. – Each person brings invaluable value, and the collective effort is the driving force behind achieving ambitious scientific and educational goals.

During the inauguration, lectures were delivered by Prof. Miłosz Jaguszewski from the 1st Department of Cardiology at the MUG and Prof. Marcin Kurzyna, head of the Department and Clinic of Pulmonary Circulation, Thromboembolic Diseases, and Cardiology at the ECZ Otwock. After the lectures, the Academy participants gathered for an integration session.
