Prof. Marcin Gruchała, Chair of the previous term of the Conference of Rectors of Academic Medical Universities (PL. Konferencja Rektorów Akademickich – KRAUM) and Rector of the Medical University of Gdańsk for the 2016–2020 and 2020–2024 terms, has been awarded the title of Honorary Chair of KRAUM. This honour recognizes Professor Gruchała’s contributions to Polish medical universities. The decision was made unanimously during the first meeting of the new KRAUM term, hosted by the Medical University of Lublin from 6th to 8th November 2024. The session brought together rectors of medical universities, including the current Rector of the MUG, Prof. Michał Markuszewski, and invited guests.
The meeting was attended by prominent figures such as Deputy Minister of Health Dr. Marek Kos, Director of the Department of Medical Personnel Development Prof. Mariusz Klencki and Deputy Director Małgorzata Przydatek, Ireneusz Staroń, Vice President of ABM for Research Funding, Marek Augustyn, Deputy President of the National Health Fund (NFZ), Prof. Kamil Torres, Vice Chair of the Polish Accreditation Committee, Jakub Kraszewski, Ph.D., Chair of the Board of the Polish Union of Clinical Hospitals and Director of the University Clinical Centre, the MUG hospital, as well as Adrian Witczak, Member of Parliament and Chair of the Parliamentary Group on Nutritional Treatment, accompanied by Anna Cywińska, President of the Nutricia Foundation.
Discussions with representatives of the Ministry of Health focused on the National Recovery Plan and the implementation of investments funded by this initiative. Topics also included services provided by clinical hospitals beyond established limits. KRAUM members deliberated on various issues, including the roles of individuals responsible for the proper functioning of healthcare facilities and the qualification requirements for dietitian and cosmetologist professions. Additionally, a decision was made to organize the next annual KRAUM Conference in Wrocław, dedicated to the quality of education.
Prof. Grzegorz Wallner (Medical University of Lublin) and Prof. Tomasz Banasiewicz (Poznan University of Medical Sciences) delivered a presentation entitled Telemedical Support for Surgeon Education, addressing the training of medical students in surgical disciplines.
The session concluded with a presentation by MP Adrian Witczak and President Anna Cywińska (Nutricia Foundation) on nutritional treatment, the collaboration of medical universities in this area, and the incorporation of nutritional therapy content into medical education standards.
