Orientation Week 2023
Obligatory, special week of orientation activities for first-year medical, pharmacy and nursing students starting their studies in the academic year of 2023/2024 will be organized from 25th of September 2023 to 30th of September 2023. It includes the Induction Ceremony and finishes with an integration barbeque party. A number of activities have been designed to introduce students to a medical school reality and to officially induct them into the medical, pharmacy and nursing profession. The main activities will be as follows:
Welcome and Overview
Tutors (Student Advisers) of the first year will meet freshman students to present an overview of the University’s history, philosophy, and curriculum, grading system, transition to the volume and pace of a medical school, student advising and counseling, and a detailed description of MUG unique curriculum. Students will have the opportunity to meet MUG authorities, especially those responsible for students affairs. The overview concludes with a Q&A session. Students will gather to listen to the overview of the class demographics and to meet their peers, who will also show them around the campus area. During this tour the newly admitted students will learn the location of the main campus buildings.
This session will allow students to meet representatives of different student organizations (e.g. English Division Student Council, Phi Delta Epsilon – Gdańsk, Association of Norwegian Students Abroad – Gdańsk, Student Scientific Society, Erasmus Student Network, Resource Team, The Academic Sport Association) in order to receve more information on their work.
Polish Language Course
This course will give students the basic knowledge of Polish language, which is necessary in everyday life. During the course, participants will practice speaking and writing skills. The classes will help students with communicating effectively and creating relationships with other strudents and university staff.
Induction Ceremony
The Induction Ceremony is a symbolic induction into the community of the Medical University of Gdańsk. The main topics of the ceremony will be: service to others, professionalism, altruism, humanism and balance. During this event, first-year students will be welcomed to the profession of medicine by their older colleagues.
Social Events
By the end of the Orientation Week, students will have the opportunity to participate in an Integration Barbeque party. Additional activities will be also organized and conducted by the second-year students and Resource Team.
