MUG's students help Syrian earthquake victims

We are pleased that we managed to collect so much – says Rami Mallah, 4th year medical student of the MUG. – About 20 students were involved in the action, who coordinated the collection of the most necessary things. Its main initiator was Ehab Bayassi, who was responsible for contact with the Embassy of the Syrian Arab Republic in Warsaw, he was also responsible for logistics, including arranging transport.

Syrian students of the Medical University of Gdańsk (MUG) together with the Resource Team and the Welcome Point organized a charity collection for their compatriots who suffered as a result of the earthquake. The action lasted from 14th of February to 2nd of March 2023 They bravely packed the collected gifts on 6th of March at the student club Medyk, where they were visited by the Deputy Mayor of Gdańsk Monika Chabior.

Our joint help is important and I am happy with the grassroots initiative of the MUG students who managed to collect a truckload of gifts – emphasized Monika Chabior, Deputy Mayor of Gdańsk for social development and equal treatment. – As a City, we also help as much as we can. We have opened a point at Grunwaldzka 126 street, we are also preparing a resolution for the City Council, under which we will transfer funds in the amount of PLN 50 000. Such support will also be provided by Gdynia and Sopot, and the Pomeranian Voivodeship will provide PLN 150 000.

As part of the campaign, the following items were collected: clothing for adults and children, canned vegetables, food and children’s diapers, hygiene products (including products for women) and articles such as: blankets, tents, sleeping bags, thermoses, flashlights and power banks.

Items collected by MUG students on Friday, 10th of March 2023, will be collected and, in cooperation with the Syrian Embassy, transported via the United Arab Emirates to Aleppo and the surrounding towns.
