Tetiana Bezpalko, a 3rd year Nursing – English Division student, who comes from Ukraine, received a special award in this year’s edition of the INTERSTUDENT competition. The award ceremony took place on 9th of February 2023 during the conference Foreign Students in Poland 2023 hosted by the Medical University of Białystok. During the official gala, the Medical University of Gdańsk was represented by Dr. Habil. Agnieszka Zimmermann, Assoc. Prof., Vice-Rector for the Quality of Teaching.
– I am surprised and very pleased, although at the same time a little ashamed of this award. I know there are so many people who do so much more every day. I will try to match this honor – said Tetiana Bezpalko – I would like to dedicate the award to Chris and Andy (photo below), who, after helping hundreds of strangers, recently did not return from another humanitarian mission.
The competition jury appreciated Tetiana Bezpalko’s great commitment and numerous educational, social and charitable activities. From 2020 to 2022, the student was the starost of her year. She participated in many scientific conferences, e.g. at Coference Nursing in Ukraine, which took place between 17th and 18th of November 2022. She is the coordinator of the Red Cross Poland – Ukraine, she supervised the delivery of medicines to Ukraine and helped with the production of camouflage materials for Ukrainian soldiers. Currently, she has applied for an individual organization of her studies in order to be able to help her compatriots and at the same time complete the last semester of her studies.
– From the beginning of her studies, teachers observed Tetiana’s great commitment to gaining knowledge and willingness to help the sick. After graduation, she wanted to introduce modern nursing in her homeland – emphasized Przemysław Domagała, Ph.D., from the Division of Neurological and Psychiatric Nursing, tutor of the 3rd year of nursing – ED students and the author of the distinguished nomination. – Since the outbreak of the war in Ukraine, she has been very involved in helping there. Her extraordinary courage first of all led her directly to the battlefield to help wounded soldiers and civilians.
It is worth noting that this is the fourth MUG student awarded in this prestigious national competition. The first laureate was Gabrielle Karpinsky in 2015, Charles Woode in 2019, and Marlon Souza Luis in 2021.
