In the summer semester of the academic year 2022/2023 at the Faculty of Pharmacy of the MUG, will be held classes as part of the International Master in Sustainable Drug Discovery (S-DISCO) program implemented jointly by the MUG, Ghent University (Belgium), University of Lille (France) and the University of Groningen (Netherlands). The current first edition of the program will prepare 19 people selected from over 120 candidates to work as leaders in the pharmaceutical industry.
The studies are divided into 4 semesters. The first one took place in Ghent, the second one, which is about to start, will be carried out in Gdańsk, while the third one will be spent by each student at a university of their choice – in Lille or Groningen. The last semester will be devoted to the implementation of the master’s thesis. Learning at the MUG will begin with Orientation Days, i.e. familiarizing foreign guests with the functioning of our University and presenting basic information about Poland and Gdańsk. The event will take place from 15th to 17th of February 2023 with the participation of representatives of the authorities, teachers and students of the MUG.
S-DISCO is a two-year full-time second-cycle program established on 27th of September 2022 by order of the MUG’s Rector, financed by the European Commission under the Erasmus Mundus Joint Master Degree (EMJMD) program. The idea of establishing the S-DISCO consortium was born in 2018, while in 2021, after numerous meetings, a competition application was submitted to the European Commission, which granted funding to the project. As representatives of our University, the following experts worked on the project: Dr. Habil. Anita Kornicka, Dr. Habil. Danuta Siluk, Assoc. Prof., Dr. Habil. Bartosz Wielgomas, Assoc. Prof. and Izabela Zdrojewska, Pharm.D. The team leader is Prof. Michał Markuszewski.
The program is a unique, interdisciplinary field of study, covering a wide range of selected areas of pharmaceutical sciences, supplemented with environmental and socio-economic aspects. Its idea is multifaceted education, enabling students to learn about various elements of sustainable development and apply them in the process of discovering new drugs. A broad commentary of the MUG’s Rector Prof. Marcin Gruchała, Vice-Rector for Science Prof. Michał Markuszewski and Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Pharmacy Dr. Habil. Bartosz Wielgomas, Assoc. Prof. along with detailed information about the new international didactic project was published in information about its opening.
