– It is first and foremost the success of Polish patients. I am glad to announce that an institution such as the Medical University of Gdańsk will have the opportunity to implement the project of the Pediatric Medicine Centre – the construction of a modern centre where the youngest patients will be treated with the highest access to health services and security – said the Deputy Minister of Health Marcin Martyniak at the beginning of the meeting.
The funds for the investment come from the Medical Fund – Strategic Infrastructure Subfund. A total of 14 entities located in 11 voivodships were awarded in the competition.
– During the call for proposals, almost 25 investment projects were submitted, and 23 of them were subject to evaluation. Each of them could be allocated in the range from PLN 50 to 300 million – emphasized Marcin Martyniak, Undersecretary of State at the Ministry of Health. – The vast majority of them exceeded PLN 100 million, therefore the Minister of Health decided to increase the original allocation from PLN 2 billion to over PLN 3.1 billion.
For several years, the University authorities have been trying to obtain funds for the construction of the Pediatric Medicine Centre, which will allow to integrate the clinical base for the youngest patients. As part of the investment, a modern facility consisting of 6 floors, including 2 underground, will be built. The completion of the project is planned for the 3rd quarter of 2026.
– Thank you for trusting our University and clinical hospital and entrusting us with such a significant amount that we will be able to donate to raise and improve the standard of treatment for the youngest patients – said Prof. Marcin Gruchała, Rector of the Medical University of Gdańsk. – The UCC is an extremely important centre of highly specialized pediatric treatment in our region. It is here that children not only from Pomerania find help in the most medically complicated situations. Improving the conditions and extending the treatment options, especially regarding the spectrum of surgical treatment, is extremely important to us.
