Alicja Sadowska-Klasa, Ph.D. from the Department of Haematology & Transplantology of the Medical University of Gdańsk is a laureate of 4th edition of the Grant Naukowy Fundacji DKMS (Scientific Grant of the DKMS Foundation) contest in category of clinical research. The award was handed over during the XXX jubilee gala of the Polish Society of Hematologists and Transfusionists organized on September 8-10, 2022 in Bydgoszcz. The specialist received funding in the amount of PLN 200,000 for the continuation of research on the effect of anti-HLA antibodies in the donor to the recipient (RSA-recipient specific antibodies) and genetic mutations within complement on the incidence of severe forms of transplant-related microangiopathy in patients after transplantation from not fully compatible family donors.

This year’s Laureate of the contest, who takes care of patients after successful transplantation of hematopoietic cells, initiated her research thanks to a grant obtained under the Young Science Creator competition. The winning contest for a research grant will increase the number of patients included in the study. Its organizer, the DKMS Foundation is an international non-profit organization dealing with the fight against blood cancers and other diseases of the hematopoietic system.
