The meeting of the Assembly of the Fahrenheit Universities was held on 7th of June 2022 in the Creative Room of the Hydromechanics building of the Gdańsk University of Technology. It was the last meeting before the summer break, attended, among others, by the Chairman of the FarU Assembly and the Rector of the Gdańsk Tech Prof. Krzysztof Wilde, Rector of the Medical University of Gdańsk Prof. Marcin Gruchała, Rector of the University of Gdańsk Prof. Piotr Stepnowski, Director of the Fahrenheit University Prof. Adriana Zaleska-Medynska, as well as the Chairman of the University Councils: Paweł Orłowski (MUG) and Prof. of the UW Maciej Duszczyk (University of Gdańsk).
Fahrenheit Day celebrations
The first part of the meeting was devoted to the summary of the Fahrenheit Day celebrations, the holiday of patron of the MUG, Gdańsk Tech and UG agreement, which ended at the end of May. Among the many initiatives that were organized by the promotion teams of each university, the largest are:
The results of the activities were presented to the participants of the meeting by Justyna Borkowska, Head of the Gdańsk Tech Promotion Office, leader of the media strategy team and the campaign promoting the idea of consolidation activities under the project “Supporting universities’ consolidation processes”.
Fahrenheit Universities Award
In the next speech, Prof. Adriana Zaleska-Medynska, Director of FarU, talked about the idea of the competition, the winners of which would receive the Fahrenheit Universities Award. The aim of the competition would be to activate bottom-up research initiatives at the three universities that make up FarU, and it will be possible for students, doctoral students, academic teachers and other employees of the MUG, Gdańsk Tech and UG to apply to it (individually and as a team).
The Assembly of the Fahrenheit University welcomed this idea, therefore the first edition of the competition will probably be held in the next calendar year. It will take into account projects started on 1st of January 2022 at the earliest, and the top three places will be additionally supported by a cash prize.
At the end of the meeting, the meeting discussed current and organizational matters. The Tuesday meeting of the FarU authorities was with the latter, in which the chairman of the Assembly was performed by prof. Krzysztof Wilde. According to the FarU statute, after the expiry of the two-year term of office of the Rector of GUT, the chairmanship of the Assembly will be taken over by prof. Marcin Gruchała, Rector of the MUG. This will officially take place from the beginning of the new academic year.
