The joint opening of the academic year was discussed

The first ever joint ceremony of the academic year opening by the MUG, Gdańsk Tech and UG may take place as early as on 1st of October 2022. The letter of intent in this matter was handed over to the President of Gdańsk by the Rectors representing the Assembly of the Fahrenheit Union of Universities (FarU). The meeting took place on 8th of June 2022 at the Gdańsk University of Technology. President Aleksandra Dulkiewicz was welcomed in front of the Gdańsk Tech’s Main Building by the Rectors: Prof. Marcin Gruchała (Medical University of Gdańsk), Prof. Krzysztof Wilde (Gdańsk University of Technology) and Prof. Piotr Stepnowski (University of Gdańsk).

The conversation lasted nearly an hour and concerned, inter alia, strengthening relations between Fahrenheit Universities and the City of Gdańsk and undertaking future initiatives and activities. The main topic of the meeting was the idea of opening the 2022/2023 academic year by organizing a joint ceremony by the MUG, Gdańsk Tech, UG, other Gdańsk universities and the Gdańsk municipality. It would take place both on the streets of the Main Town and in the European Solidarity Centre.
Long live science!
We would like to show that Gdańsk is an academic city and a city of science. We want this day to be a joyful manifestation of the unity of the academic community. A real celebration of science! – wrote the Rectors of the MUG, Gdańsk Tech and UG in a letter to President Dulkiewicz
Importantly, the intention of the Fahrenheit Universities’ Rectors is that the ceremony could be organized jointly by all Gdańsk universities, and not only those that co-create the FarU. The event under the Long live science! slogan was initially planned for 1st of October 2022. Apart from it, all three universities plan to organize separate, traditional inaugurations within their walls.
