Professor Dziadziuszko is a member of the Academia Europaea

Another scientist of the Medical University of Gdańsk joined the Academia Europaea, international scientific organization aimed at improving standards in science, research and education, and supporting and promoting European research. Professor Rafał Dziadziuszko from the Department of Oncology & Radiotherapy of the MUG is the sixth member from Poland, and the third member from our University, of the Medical and Veterinary Sciences Section of this institution. The group of specialists also includes: Prof. Jacek Jassem, Head of the Department of Oncology & Radiotherapy and Prof. Krzysztof Narkiewicz, Head of the Department of Hypertension & Diabetology.

Professor Dziadziuszko was a scholarship holder of the Union for International Cancer Control (IUCC) and the International Association for the Study of Lung Cancer (IASLC). He spent several years at the Cancer Centre of the University of Colorado, where he conducted research on targeted therapies in lung cancer. In 2013-2018 he was a national consultant in the field of oncological radiotherapy. Currently, he is the Deputy Head of the Department of Oncology & Radiotherapy of the MUG, manages the work of the Department of Radiation Therapy of UCK and serves as a medical coordinator at the Center for Early Phase Clinical Research at UCK. He is a member of: the European Society of Clinical Oncology (ESMO), the International Society for Lung Cancer Research (IASLC), the European Organization for Research and Treatment of Cancer (EORTC), the European Society Radiation Oncology (ESTRO) and the assistant editor of the journal Journal of Thoracic Oncology. He is the author and co-author of nearly 500 publications, a significant part of which appeared in reputable magazines from the so-called Philadelphia List. According to the Scopus database, the Hirsch index of works with his participation is 45. The main subject of the Professor’s research interests is translational and clinical research in lung cancer. He is currently working on identifying new molecular targets and developing new strategies for radiotherapy in chest cancer. In recognition of his achievements, he was entrusted with the authorship of a chapter on lung cancer in the latest edition of the Oxford Textbook of Oncology.

Europaea cademia was established in 1988 on the initiative of, inter alia, Royal Society. It gathers specialists from various fields of science: medicine, chemistry, physics, mathematics, economics, humanities and social sciences. By associating almost 5,000 members, including several dozen Nobel laureates, is the largest pan-European scientific society. The organization focuses on opinion-making and advisory activities in the field of science, cooperating in this area, inter alia, with the European Commission. Its structure includes more than 20 sections in four different subject classes (humanities, social and related sciences, science, life sciences).
