A representative of the Medical University of Gdańsk Katarzyna Wojciechowska, M.A. from the Department of Biology and Medical Genetics took 2nd place in the National Competition for MA theses of medical analytics graduates, the final of which took place on 9th of May 2022 in the online form. Award-winning work entitled Identyfikacja rearanżacji MECOM u pacjentów z zespołem mielodysplastycznym oraz AML (Identification of MECOM rearrangements in patients with myelodysplastic syndrome and AML) was prepared in the Department of Biology and Medical Genetics under the leadership of the Head of the unit Prof. Bartosz Wasąg.
The competition was organized by the Association of the College of Laboratory Medicine in Poland. The partners were: the National Chamber of Laboratory Diagnosticians, the Polish Society for Laboratory Diagnostics and the Gyncentrum Genetic Laboratories. The competition entries were assessed by independent academics from Polish medical universities. The MUG was represented by Dr. Habil. Anna Hallmann from the Department of Pharmaceutical Biochemistry as a reviewer and Prof. Maciej Jankowski, Head of the Division of Clinical Chemistry as a member of the jury evaluating the presentations.
Nine graduates of medical analytics – winners of faculty competitions at home universities joined the competition. The 1st place was taken by Aleksandra Kałużna, M.A. from the Medical University of Silesia in Katowice with the thesis entitled Ocena użyteczności oznaczeń stężenia białka S100/A12 w diagnostyce wrzodziejącego zapalenia jelita grubego (Evaluation of the usefulness of S100 / A12 protein concentration determinations in the diagnosis of ulcerative colitis), and the third place went to Jakub Pepłowski, M.A. from the Medical University of Warsaw with work Analiza częstości mutacji w genie DHCR7 w materiale z poronień samoistnych (Analysis of the mutation frequency in the DHCR7 gene in the material from spontaneous abortions).
