Scientist of the MUG with the award of the Prime Minister

Prof. Tomasz Zdrojewski

Professor Tomasz Zdrojewski, Head of the Division of Preventive Medicine & Education of the Medical University of Gdańsk is the winner of the team award of the Prime Minister for scientific achievements. The award was granted for the creation and implementation of medical registers, the analysis of which is used to optimize clinical management in cardiology. The study was prepared by a team of 13 researchers, which, apart from the MUG scientist, included: Prof. Grzegorz Opolski (MUW), Prof. Bogdan Wojtyniak (NIPH–NIH) and researchers from the Silesian Centre for Heart Diseases in Zabrze under the supervision of Prof. Lech Poloński and Prof. Mariusz Gąsior.

As a result of the team’s work, the following were created:

• registers of acute coronary syndromes, which contributed to the implementation and popularization of a modern model of interventional treatment of myocardial infarction in Poland,
• Silesian Cardiovascular Base (SILCARD),
• registry of pre-hospital cardiac arrests,
• clinical records.

The data obtained in this way should be widely used, first of all for the purposes of treatment. Analyzes based on them can be very useful both for health care planning and its appropriate financing.
