For the twenty-first time, the jury of the Success of the Year 2021 in Healthcare – Leaders in Medicine has selected medicine leaders in ten categories. In category Leader in Healthcare – Media and Public Relations, Joanna Matuszewska – a medical journalist of Radio Gdańsk, conducting classes Patient with a disability at the Division of Quality of Life Research of the MUG, rehamanager at the Breast Unit of the UCC, turned out to be unrivaled, while Anna Lignowska – Deputy Director-in-Chief for Nursing and the Chief Nurse of the UCC received a distinction in the category of Healthcare Manager – public institutions. The award ceremony was held on 26th of January 2022 at the Royal Castle in Warsaw. On behalf of the Medical University of Gdańsk, it was attended by prof. Edyta Szurowska – Vice-Rector for Clinical Affairs and Joanna Śliwińska, Ph.D. – spokesman. Prof. Tomasz Zdrojewski – head of the Division of Preventive Medicine & Education of the MUG, chairman of the Public Health Committee of the Polish Academy of Sciences was also present as a member of the jury of the contest.
Redactor Joanna Matuszewska is co-creator and host of medical broadcasts entitled Bądź zdrów bez kolejki (Be healthy without queue), which are being realized together with the Medical University of Gdańsk since 2017 and since 2019 also with the University Clinical Centre. Their goal is health education of the inhabitants of our region and spreading knowledge about health, disease prevention and treatment methods. In addition, Joanna Matuszewska is a graduate of the first edition of postgraduate studies Rehabilitation Management Specialist, using her knowledge and experience in working with oncology patients both in the treatment and rehabilitation process.
– Medicine is fascinating and always hot. Many people search the media for medical topics. The project “Bądź zdrów bez kolejki” is a response to social needs. The doctor does not always have time for extensive explanations and education. Hence the idea of a live broadcast with the participation of experts and listeners – explains Joanna Matuszewska. – I combine my journalistic flair with the performance of rehamanager duties. My role is mainly to prepare a comprehensive rehabilitation plan that takes into account the individual needs of the patient. I am currently working on creating an IT tool to create such plans.
Anna Lignowska, Deputy Director-in-Chief for Nursing of the UCC supervises the work of a team of nurses at the MUG clinical hospital. During 13 years of holding managerial positions, she increased the number of qualified nurses employed to over 1.5 thousand.
– During the first job interview, we propose a development path. We have a clear system of subsidies, incl. to raise qualifications and an incentive system. It all pays off – says Anna Lignowska, pointing the main aspect of her activity, which is the continuous development of the team of nurses managed by her.
Moreover, Director Lignowska was responsible for the implementation of a call center in specialist clinics at the university hospital and for the registration of tests, and during the COVID-19 pandemic, she coordinated the work of nurses at the General Vaccination Center..
