Summary of the "Hunting of Huntington's disease” meeting

21.01.2022

Fifty nine people took part in the second meeting titled Hunting of Huntington’s disease in the series In Vivo and In Vitro Research through the Eyes of Teams V and IX in PRA 3 – a Cycle of Meetings on Intra- and Intercollegiate Cooperation, which was held online on 14 January 2022. The patronage of the event was provided by the MUG Rector, Prof. Marcin Gruchała and Fahrenheit Universities in Gdańsk.

The meeting was opened and chaired by Natalia Literska, M. Eng. On the part of the Medical University of Gdańsk, the meeting was hosted by Marta Tomczyk, Ph.D. from the Department of Biochemistry, coordinator of Team V, Priority Research Area 3, who delivered a lecture titled Poszukiwanie nowych mechanizmów, biomarkerów i terapii miopatii związanych z chorobą Huntingtona (The Search for New Mechanisms, Biomarkers and Therapy of Myopathy Related to Huntington’s Disease). The event was attended by a guest, Karolina Pierzynowska Ph. D. from the UG Department of Molecular Biology, who made a speech titled Podłoże molekularne oraz nowe strategie terapeutyczne choroby Huntingtona (The Molecular Background and New Therapeutic Strategies for Huntington’s Disease). Those experts have been cooperating with each other for 5 years, first in in vitro and then in vivo investigations with the use of the mouse model of Huntington’s disease.

The presentations were followed by questions from the participants. Scientists of the Medical University of Gdańsk, University of Gdańsk, Gdańsk University of Technology as well as from other research units from all over Poland took part in the event. The workshops will continue in the next months. The next webinar is scheduled for 18 February 2022, and information on the speakers and topics of the lectures will be published soon.

The originators of the meeting cycle were the researchers of teams V In vivo studies on mechanism of disease and therapy and IX Technological developments for bioanalysis and therapy including cell based, 3D and artificial engineered models, which are part of Priority Research Area No. 3 Biochemistry, Genetics and Molecular Biology, delineated within the Excellence Initiative – Research University programme at the Medical University of Gdańsk.
