Prof. Tomasz Bączek, Head of the Department of Pharmaceutical Chemistry and Prof. Krzysztof Narkiewicz, Head of the Department and Division of the Hypertension & Diabetology were elected to the Central Council of Science and Higher Education for the term 2022-2025. Prof. Narkiewicz was nominated as a candidate of the Polish Academy of Sciences, whereas Prof. Bączek was nominated by the Presidium and Assembly of the Conference of Rectors of Academic Schools in Poland (KRASP), during the elections held on 21-23 October this year at the Gdynia Maritime University. The session was attended by Prof. Marcin Gruchała, Rector of the MUG, Chairman of the Conference of Rectors of Academic Medical Universities in the 2020-2024 term.

In addition to heading the Department, Prof. Bączek is the Rector’s Representative for the Excellence Initiative – Research University program, while Prof. Narkiewicz is the leader of the Priority Research Area 2: Cardiology and cardiovascular medicine and is the Chairman of the Scientific Council of the MUG’s Translational Medicine Centre. Our University’s experts have been included in the prestigious group of 2% of the best scientists in the world according to the ranking prepared by Stanford University.

Central Council of Science and Higher Education is a representative body of science and higher education, which deals with broadly understood cooperation with public authorities in the field of state science policy. The tasks of the unit also include the assessment of legal acts prepared by the Ministry of Education and Science and expressing opinions on the operation and directions of development of the education system and university management.
