Sopocka Muza for Prof. Zdrojewski

Professor Tomasz Zdrojewski, Head of the Division of Preventive Medicine & Education of the Medical University of Gdańsk is a laureate of this year’s edition of Sopocka Muza (Sopot Muse) award in the field of science. It has been handed on 16th of October 2021 during concert commemorating the 120th anniversary of City of Sopot. Prof. Edyta Szurowska, Vice-Rector for Clinical Affairs of the MUG also took part in the event.

Sopocka Muza is handed by President of the City of Sopot since 1974 in recognition of services in the fields of science, culture and art as well as for the best young creators. Prof. Tomasz Zdrojewski has been awarded for his contribution to development of research and health-promoting programs, such as Zdrowie dla Pomorzan (Health for Pomeranians) and functioning between 1999 and 2009 Sopkard, which aim was to create standards of modern cardiovascular diseases prevention and indicate, basing on polls, the efficient information strategies encouraging society to healthy lifestyle.

Professor has also carried out a number of nationwide researches, including Polsenior (regarding studying health, life comfort and social-economical situation of elder Poles) and NATPOL (study on spreading risk factors of cardiovascular diseases). He has also been a supervisor of NOMED-AF project, creating system diagnosing atrial fibrillation in its early stage and Polski Projekt 400 Miast (Polish Project of 400 Towns), improving diagnosing and therapy efficiency of hypertension, hyperlipidaemia and carbohydrate disorders. This research has also been intended to reduce a rate of people smoking in small towns and villages.

Besides heading the Division of Preventive Medicine & Education of the MUG, Professor is a member of presidium of the Public Health Committee at the Polish Academy of Sciences. Its goals are activities in the field of public health, including analysis and evaluation of science, speaking about scientific policy, research initiating, evaluation of programs and cooperation in spreading research results. In the past, Prof. Tomasz Zdrojewski has also been a consultant in the Chancellery of the President of Poland.
