Publication commemorating Prof. Roman Kaliszan

5.10.2021

The TrAC – Trends in Analytical Chemistry (IF=12,296) has published special issue Chromatography in Bioanalysis – a tribute to Prof. Roman Kaliszan, dedicated to the memory of Prof. Roman Kaliszan, Rector of the Medical University of Gdańsk (2005-2008), outstanding scientist, creator of the original on a global scale field of study: Quantitative Structure-Retention Relationships, (QSRR). Besides the introduction of QSRR, Prof. Roman Kaliszan is renowned for his activity in the field of pharmaceutical analysis, bioanalysis and usage of advanced calculation methods during biological and analytical data analysis.

The TrAC – Trends in Analytical Chemistry issue’s editors are scientists from the MUG: Dr. Habil. Danuta Siluk, Assoc. Prof. heading the Department of Biopharmacy and Pharmacodynamics, Prof. Michał Markuszewski – Head of the Division of Biopharmacy and Pharmacokinetics ass well as Prof. Tomasz Bączek – Head of the Department of Pharmaceutical Chemistry. The issue contains 15 review articles written by researchers from all over the world, i.e from Canada, Brazil, the Netherlands, Belgium, France, Italy, Japan, China, Georgia and Poland. Authors presented recent achievements in the research field regarding the analysis od biological and physiochemical data and using the chromatographic dividing techniques; the fields connected with scientific passion of Prof. Roman Kaliszan.

In the newspaper were presented recent achievements regarding cutting-edge platforms for testing of biomolecules and materials based on graphene, boranes, and 3D printed materials as new sorbents to trace analyses. Also, the conception of White Analytical Chemistry was presented. Thoughts about further research based on quantitative structure – chromatographic retention relationship assume a special place in that issue.

There were also presented methods of probing of chiral divided amino acids and other endogenous substances (i.e. bile acids) in various biologic matrix investigated as potential tools supporting traditional diagnostic research. Enantiomers dividing, monitoring of reactions occurring in new-designed bioreactors and modern mass spectroscopy within the context of an advanced metabolomic analysis, bioanalysis and drugs analysis were the subject of vast and detailed consideration. The TrAC – Trends in Analytical Chemistry magazine is the highest scoring scientific periodic in the field of chemical sciences, belonging to Q1 quartile (in the highest decyl D1 according to JCR 2020). Its scientific chef editor is Prof. Janusz Pawliszyn from the University of Waterloo in Canada.
