The University Centre of Maritime and Tropical Medicine in Gdynia improves health accessibility

The University Centre of Maritime and Tropical Medicine in Gdynia has received a grant of 963,432.15 PLN for improving the accessibility of services for people with special needs. The scope of works includes architectural, digital, communication, and organizational areas. The main activities include the replacement of an elevator for transporting patients in the high building of the Institute of Maritime and Tropical Medicine, improvement of sanitary infrastructure in the clinical building and adaptation of the University Centre of Maritime and Tropical Medicine website for the visually impaired. Moreover, it is planned to install an online Polish Sign Language interpreter platform accessible from the patient and doctor level, to appoint a plenipotentiary for accessibility, and a series of training for the hospital staff on communication with persons with special needs.

The project entitled Poprawa dostępności Uniwersyteckiego Centrum Medycyny Morskiej i Tropikalnej dla osób ze szczególnymi potrzebami, w szczególności w zakresie komunikacji (Improving the accessibility of the University Centre of Maritime and Tropical Medicine for people with special needs, in particular in the area of communication) was developed by Dr. Habil. Maciej Grzybek, Assoc. Prof., the Rector’s Representative for the Development of the Institute of Maritime and Tropical Medicine, in cooperation with the Directorate of the University Center of Maritime and Tropical Medicine in Gdynia and the Project Officer of the MUG. It will be implemented in the period from 1.05.2021 to 31.10.2022 as part of the program Dostępność Plus dla Zdrowia (Accessibility Plus for Health), which is co-financed by European Funds.

The program Dostępność Plus dla Zdrowia (Accessibility Plus for Health) is part of the government program Dostępność Plus (Accessibility Plus), which comprehensively covers the area of accessibility in Poland. It aims to ensure free access to goods, services, and opportunities to participate in social and public life for people with special needs. The program focuses on adapting public space, i.e. architecture, transport, education, health care, digitization, services, and competitiveness to the needs of all citizens. The grant project entitled Dostępność Plus dla Zdrowia is implemented under the Program Operacyjny Wiedza Edukacja Rozwój 2014-2020 (Accessibility Plus for Health is implemented under the Operational Programme Knowledge Education Development 2014-2020) co-financed by the European Social Fund.
