Prime Minister Morawiecki at the UCC vaccination center

16.04.2021

More than 4,300 people a day, and up to 100,000 a month, will be able to get vaccinated at the Population Vaccination Point being built at the Sports Centre of the Medical University of Gdańsk. The facility, located at Debowa Street, will be the largest COVID-19 vaccination place in Pomerania. On Friday, April 16, it was visited by Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki, who together with Rector of the MUG Prof. Marcin Gruchała and government spokesman Piotr Müller attended a press conference. The meeting was also attended by Tomasz Witowski, a 6th year medical student and vaccination coordinator at the University Clinical Center in Gdańsk.

- We have a chance to fight the pandemic today, but we all have to actually want to get vaccinated. A real breakthrough on collective immunity will be achieved within two months, maybe sooner – said Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki.

During the conference Prime Minister pointed out that a very important element in the fight against COVID-19 is vaccination and the emerging universal vaccination points.

- We have an increasingly accelerated vaccination program that reaches more and more people. We are exceeding the number of 7,000 universal vaccination points – added Mateusz Morawiecki.

The Prime Minister added that he had the opportunity to see the largest vaccination point in Pomerania being built.

- I am very glad that the Prime Minister informed us that there will be more vaccines. This is very important information, especially for such centres as this one. I invite everybody here and I hope that there will be no downtime due to the lack of vaccines or lack of people willing to be vaccinated – said the Rector of the Medical University of Gdańsk.

He also thanked all the people involved in the vaccination program – the management and employees of the University Clinical Centre, the University, local authorities, the National Health Fund, volunteers and students who have been supporting the fight against the pandemic from the very beginning.

Students of the Medical University of Gdańsk are involved in the support of covid units, operation of drive-thru testing centers and vaccination points – added Prof. Gruchała.

The COVID-19 vaccination point being constructed at the GUMed Sports Centre at 21 Dębowa Street will begin operations on 23 April this year. Approximately 4 thousand persons a day will be able to be vaccinated here, and even 100 thousand persons a month. The facility will have a total of 39 doctor and nurse stations. The center will be open from Monday to Friday between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m. It is being built thanks to the cooperation of the University Clinical Centre, the Medical University of Gdańsk and the City of Gdańsk.
