Division of Public Health & Social Medicine in new premises

Modern seminar and conference rooms, Student Lab, tutoring room, bright, spacious spaces, available 24 hours a day – the Division of Public Health & Social Medicine of the MUG gained a new face. The official opening of the modernized premises located in building No. 15 on the premises of the University Clinical Center took place on March 31, 2021. The investment of PLN 1.5 million was financed from the University budget.
Due to the epidemic situation, the opening ceremony was held in a narrow group. The gathered guests were welcomed by Dr. Habil. Łukasz Balwicki, Head of the Division. The event was attended by the Rector Professor Marcin Gruchała, Prof. Jacek Bigda – Vice Rector for Development and Organization of Education, Prof. Przemysław Rutkowski – Dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences, Prof. Paweł Zagożdżon – Deputy of the Faculty of Medicine, and Prof. Andrzej Basiński – Dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences (2016-2020). Also present were: Marzena Zarzeczna-Baran Ph.D. – former Head of the Division, student Maja Abba from Public Health Circle, ED, student Gabriel Pesta, secretary of the Students’ Self-Government of the University, and employees of the unit.
- You are a great team with a significant track record that has been working under difficult circumstances. Our University is changing and I am glad that we are opening another part of it, which meets today’s standards. Of course, people are the most important, their competence, commitment and the atmosphere in the unit, but undoubtedly the environment also has an impact on work efficiency – said Prof. Marcin Gruchała, Rector of the MUG.
As the Dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences, Prof. Przemysław Rutkowski added, the Department has gained new premises, creating conditions for even better work, and we all are now looking forward to a new public health for the XXI century.
High quality public health education for students is the challenge of our time.
- Public health content and issues are present in politics, public administration, economics, management and many other fields. In practice, it uses the accumulated knowledge in shaping laws, builds indications and recommendations not only for “health policy”, but also for other areas of action, such as spatial planning, energy policy, education, and social welfare. Adepts of public health will increasingly shape reality – emphasized the head of the Division, Dr. Habil. Łukasz Balwicki.
The department is equipped with modern seminar and conference rooms. The new premises provide friendly spaces for students and staff. A Student Lab was designed – a room dedicated to students where they can develop innovative scientific and social projects. The room is equipped with office furniture, access to eduroam network and full-text databases and the latest books on public health. In addition, social facilities have been provided so that students can eat and rest in a comfortable environment. Inspired by personalized education methods, especially Oxford tutoring and the master – student relationship, a tutoring room was designed. It is a space where people passionate about science and development will meet to develop the talents of MUG’s students.
