Piotr Paluchowski Ph.D. from the Division of History & Philosophy of Medical Sciences of the Medical University of Gdańsk has been invited to join the Gedanopedia Knowledge Committee, which guides the activities of the Gedanopedia portal (www.gedanopedia.pl) run jointly by the Gdańsk Foundation and the Gdańsk Museum. The Gedanopedia project is an online continuation and development of the book Encyclopedia of Gdańsk published in 2012. The Committee is chaired by Prof. Błażej Śliwiński (University of Gdańsk).
The main goal of the project is to create a comprehensive source of information about Gdańsk, a canon of knowledge related to it, and building the sustainable cultural capital of the city. Gedanopedia has the ambition to combine the patterns drawn from traditional encyclopedic works with the conveniences of digital tools and unlimited access to the presented content, as well as the public’s ability to create and shape it. It currently contains about 6 000 entries, the number of which is steadily increasing, and existing entries are updated whenever possible.
Piotr Paluchowski Ph.D. is currently the author of more than 170 entries concerning, among others, modern Gdańsk, biographies of today’s medics, as well as people of Gdańsk medicine in the 20th century. One of his goals, which he set himself while working in the Committee, will be to place on the portal more entries related to the history and present-day of the Medical University of Gdańsk and people associated with it.
