Mateusz Gliwiński, Ph.D. from the Department of Medical Immunology of the MUG received the Golden OTIS 2021 Award (Złoty OTIS 2021) in the category of scientific debuts for proving in his doctoral thesis the role of proinsulin as a dominant autoantigen in the development of type 1 diabetes mellitus and creating the basis for new cell therapy based on this autoantigen. The publication was supervised by Dorota Iwaszkiewicz-Grześ, Ph.D. and Prof. Piotr Trzonkowski. The work was supported by a grant from the National Center for Research and Development LIDER/160/L-6/14/NCBR/2015, STRATEGMED1/233368/1/NCBR/2014 to the MUG and POIR.01.01.01-00-0769/15-03 to Poltreg. The award presentation will take place in April 2021.

The Złoty OTIS Confidence Awards are community honors awarded by the medical journal Świat Lekarza since 2004 for special achievements in medicine. Winners are selected by a committee composed of representatives of science and medicine as well as representatives of patient organizations and the pharmaceutical industry.
