The Medical University of Gdańsk is one of the signatories of the Polish Clinical Research Network (Polska Sieć Badań Klinicznych). The agreement was signed on March 11 this year, by President of the Medical Research Agency, Radosław Sierpiński, Ph.D.. Our University was represented by the Rector of the MUG, Prof. Marcin Gruchała, Vice-Rector for Clinical Affairs Prof. Edyta Szurowska and Magdalena Leszczyńska-Wiloch, Pharm.D., Rector’s Representative for Clinical Affairs.

- It is an honor that our University is one of the partners of such an important initiative as the establishment of the Polish Clinical Research Network. I am convinced that this will allow us to create a certain standard for clinical trials in Poland and to shorten the distance with more advanced European countries – says Prof. Marcin Gruchała.

Apart from the Medical University of Gdańsk, the members of the Network are: the Medical University of Białystok, the Medical University of Łodz, Poznan University of Medical Sciences, the Military Institute of Medicine, Maria Sklodowska-Curie National Research Institute of Oncology, National Institute of Cardiology of Stefan Cardinal Wyszyński – National Research Institute, the Children’s Memorial Health Institute, Wroclaw Medical University, the National Geriatrics, Rheumatology and Rehabilitation Institute.

The development of the Network will contribute to the creation of an internationally recognized brand, which is a strong center of clinical research in the country. The network will be heading to standardize quality in clinical research, to develop collaborative processes and increase the availability of innovative therapies for patients.

The creation of the Polish Clinical Research Network also has a significant impact on the national economy, through the revenues from the implementation of clinical trials to the state budget, alternative savings for the health care system, an additional source of remuneration for researchers, doctors and research centers, and an increase in employment in other sectors. The signing of the agreement of the Polish Clinical Research Network is another important stage in the improvement of Polish clinical research centers and their promotion on the national and international scale.
