More than PLN 2 million for the implementation of 49 research projects went to the winners of the first edition of the University’s Grant Program Young Creator of Science. The competition was announced in November last year as part of the “Excellence Initiative – Research University” Program.

The aim of the competition is to initiate and develop scientific research on research topics within the Priority Research Areas:

  1. Oncology,
  2. Cardiology and cardiovascular medicine,
  3. Biochemistry, genetics and molecular biology.

An important part of the project is also the strengthening of the process of internationalization of research by increasing the number of research projects carried out in international cooperation.

The competition was open to doctoral students and individuals who obtained a doctoral degree within 7 years before the year of submitting the competition application and are employed at the MUG. The maximum amount of support they could apply for was PLN 50 000.

- The ability to function efficiently in the system of modern science is a key competence of a modern researcher. One of the elements of this system is the acquisition of grants for research – says Prof. Tomasz Bączek, Rector’s Representative for the “Excellence Initiative – Research University” Program. The “Young Creator of Science” competition addressed to our youngest researchers was the first important test of these skills for many of our applicants. Both the great interest in the competition and the level of submitted projects are very encouraging and prove that our initiative was needed. I believe that this is a very good project, which will lead not only into interesting research results, but in the long run will also bring many further grant successes for our employees.

175 applications were submitted to the competition, which were reviewed and assessed by the Committee under the supervision of the MUG’s Vice-Rector for Science. On this basis, 49 of projects were financed. The total amount of the funding for projects is over PLN 2 million.

The next edition of the competition is planned for September 2021.
