Anna Jesionek Ph.D. from the Department of Pharmacognosy of the Faculty of Pharmacy of the MUG has been honoured with the Gdańsk Scientific Society and Mayor of City of Gdańsk award.

The GSS and Mayor of City of Gdańsk awarded five eqivalent prizes in various fields of science for extraordinary achievements documented with scientific papers published until the end of 2020. Awarded doctoral thesis entitled Receiving of essential oil with predicted biological activity in in vitro cultures of Rhododendron tomentosum (Ledum palustre) has been prepared under the supervision of Prof. Maria Łuczkiewicz from the Department of Pharmacognosy of the MUG.

- My doctoral project assumed the parallel implementation of biotechnological, phytochemical and biological research – says Anna Jesionek Ph.D.- Its goal was to obtain, based on the common marsh, a stable and independent plant system in vitro, capable of continuous production of essential oil with anti-inflammatory activity, which could be used in the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis. The research in the laboratory, as well as the field work on the peat bog, was very interesting to me, which resulted in the creation of two review publications and six experimental publications with a total IF of 16.669, which are the basis of my doctoral dissertation.

Original scientific works bringing new content or setting new directions for the development of a specific scientific discipline were taken into account in the competition. Gdańsk Scientific Society (GTN) awards people who are under 35. by the end of current year. Candidates for the awards are nominated by members of the Gdańsk Scientific Society or persons holding managerial positions at universities or scientific institutions based in the city of Gdańsk.
