The Medical University of Gdańsk is one of Polish universities supporting students from Belarus during action Solidary with Belarus – Solidary with students. It’s an governmental initiative which is being implemented by the Polish National Agency for Academic Exchange (NAWA from Polish: Polska Narodowa Agencja Wymiany Akademickiej) and Conference of Rectors of Academic Schools in Poland (CRASP) on commission of the Ministry of Education and Science.
Under the initiative the scholarships were awarded to over 900 students who chose themselves their universities and fields of studies. The most often chosen ones were: management, computer science, tourism and recreation, international relations, logistics and medical studies. Polish universities are very popular amongs Belarussian youth which results in fact that they are second (after Ukrainians) biggest group of foreign students in Poland. The budget of Solidary with students action is about 11 millions PLN. Students will receive a scholarship paid monthly for maximum 10 months in academic year 2020/2021.
Our University has received a funding for six students from Belarus who have achieved highest positions in recruting proces during current academic year and began studies in the MUG on fields: medical, medical stomatological and pharmacy. Besides the scholarship students received gifts including Polish language schoolbook Polski jest COOL (Polish language is COOL).
Solidary with students is one of three activities realised under the initiative Solidary with Belarus. Remaining two are: Solidary with scientists and Solidary with teachers. Moreover, the NAWA has organised in October and November 2020 a Polish language online course for over 500 Belarussian students who study or plan to study in Poland and who will need Polish language in their studies or work. Overall, NAWA has supported over 1100 people with a budget of about 14 millions PLN.
