With deep sadness we inform that at 15th December 2020 passed away

Prof. Wacław Szybalski

world class pundit in molecular genetics and molecular medicine, outstanding Polish scholar, who for over 45 years worked on the science at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Awarded an honoris causa doctorat by our University in 2000. One of the originators of creating the Intercollegiate Faculty of Biotechnology of the University of Gdańsk and Medical University of Gdańsk. He supported the construction of Tri-City Academic Laboratory Animal Centre of the MUG.

Doctor honoris causa of the University of Gdańsk, Gdańsk University of Technology, Maria Curie-Skłodowska University in Lublin and Jagiellonian University in Kraków. Honoured with the Order of Polonia Restituta First Class.

On his initiative the Professor Wacław Szybalski Foundation has been estabilished in 2007. Its aim is to work towards the enhancement of international prestige of Polish science and the city of Lviv.
