The Rector of our University in years 1990-1993 prof. dr hab. Stefan Angielski was awarded the title of doctor honoris causa of the University of Gdańsk for his fundamental contribution to the creation of a modern school of clinical biochemistry in Gdańsk and for undertaking activities that integrate the academic and medical community of Gdańsk. The ceremony was held on October the 5th at the Artus Court in Gdańsk.
During the ceremony, the University of Gdańsk awarded the title of doctor honoris causa to the first democratically elected Rectors after the year 1989 and political changes in Poland: prof. dr. hab. Stefan Angielski – Rector of the Medical University of Gdańsk in years 1990-1993, prof. dr. hab. Zbigniew Grzonka – Rector of the University of Gdańsk in years 1990-1996 and prof. dr. hab. Eng. Edmund Wittbrodt – Rector of the Gdańsk University of Technology in years 1990-1996. Granting honorary dignities to Senior Rectors is symbolically important in the proces of constructing a strong, integrated and competitive European academic center in Gdańsk
Professor Angielski is one of the initiators of establishing the Intercollegiate Faculty of Biotechnology UG & MUG, which received the A + category in the last parametric classification. In addition, the Senior Rector established the Department of Hematology of the Medical University of Gdańsk, as well as the Department of Laboratory Medicine at the Faculty of Pharmacy of the MUG. Laudation in honor of the Professor was presented by prof. dr hab. Ewa Łojkowska from the UG &MUG Institute of Biotechnology.
Prof. dr. hab. Zbigniew Grzonka – Rector of the University of Gdańsk in the years 1990-1996 received an honorary doctorate for his contribution to the dynamic development of the University of Gdańsk, for establishing the prestige Gdańsk scientific school of amino acid and peptide chemistry, and for integrating the Gdańsk academic community. Professor dr. hab. BEng. Edmund Wittbrodt, Rector of the Gdańsk University of Technology in 1990-1996 was honored for many years of public activity in the field of Polish education. Laudation in honor of prof. Grzonka was presented by prof. dr hab. Eng. Jerzy Błażejowski and the praise speech for Senior Rector Wittbrodt was introduced by prof. dr hab. Józef Borzyszkowski.
