Matriculation of 1st year students

Matriculation at all Faculties of the Medical University of Gdańsk has ended. Due to the epidemic situation, the celebrations were held remotely via an online platform.


Faculty of Pharmacy

The first matriculated students of the first year were over 200 students of the Faculty of Pharmacy. The ceremony which took place on September the 28th, was chaired by the Dean of the Faculty of Pharmacy Prof. Wojciech Kamysz, Pharm.D. The ceremony was also attended by: prof. dr hab. Marcin Gruchała – Rector of the Medical University of Gdańsk, Vice-Rector for Science Prof. Michał Markuszewski, Pharm.D., Dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences Prof. Przemysław Rutkowski, M.D., PhD. Dean of the Intercollegiate Faculty of Biotechnology UG & MUG dr hab. Ewelina Król, PhD, University of Gdańsk Professor and dr hab. Tomasz Grabowski from Polpharma Biologics SA. During the ceremony, the Dean of the Faculty prof. Wojciech Kamysz read the list of students who got the highest number of points in the recruitment process. The newly admitted students were welcomed in the University community by Rector Gruchała. He also congratulated on choosing one of the best medical universities in Poland and he wished the students good luck in fulfilling their ambitions and passions during the studies.

Faculty of Medicine

During the ceremony organized on September 29th, first-year students of the following faculties: medicine, medicine and dentistry and dental techniques were admitted as students of the MUG. The ceremony was attended by: Rector prof. dr hab. Marcin Gruchała, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine Prof. Radosław Owczuk, M.D., PhD. Dean of the Intercollegiate Faculty of Biotechnology UG & MUG dr hab. Ewelina Król, PhD., University of Gdańsk Professor, Dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences Prof. Przemysław Rutkowski, M.D., PhD., Prof. Ewa Słomińska, M.D., PhD – Deputy Dean for Science and Staff Developement and Deputy Deans for Teaching Affairs: dr hab. Maria Bieniaszewska, M.D., PhD.; dr hab. Aida Kusiak, M.D., PhD. Univeristy Professor; dr hab. Paweł Zagożdżon, M.D., PhD., Univeristy Professor and dr hab. Kamil Chwojnicki, M.D., PhD.

Representatives of the Faculty Council were also present: Jan Spodnik, PhD – supervisor of the 1st year students, Jacek Kaczmarek, PhD. – International Alumni Relations Officer, representative of the Alumni Association and Patryk Brzeziński – 2nd year student of medicine.

In the 2020/2021 academic year, 476 students were admitted to the Polish-language majors of the Faculty of Medicine. Special congratulations were given to the twenty-seven students who had the highest scores during their enrollment. The matriculation was chaired by the Rector Gruchała, while the oath ceremony was conducted by the Dean of the Faculty, prof. Radosław Owczuk.

On the same day, the matriculation of 150 students of the first year of the Faculty of Medicine – medicine programm – English Division took place. The ceremony was attended by: Rector prof. Marcin Gruchała, prof. dr hab. Radosław Owczuk – Dean of the Faculty, dr hab. Ewelina Król, prof. UG – dean of the Intercollegiate Faculty of Biotechnology of UG and MUG, prof. dr hab. Przemysław Rutkowski – Dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences, prof. dr hab. Ewa Słomińska – Deputy Dean for Science and Staff Developement of the Faculty and Deputy Deans for Teaching Affairs: dr hab. Maria Bieniaszewska M.D., PhD, dr hab. Paweł Zagożdżon, M.D., PhD., Univeristy Professor, dr hab. Kamil Chwojnicki, M.D., PhD. and dr hab. Bartosz Wielgomas – Deputy Dean for Teaching Affairs, first deputy of the Dean of the Faculty of Farmacy.

The invited guests also took the floor, including representatives of the Faculty Council: Narcyz Knap, PhD – supervisor of 1st year English Divission students, Jacek Kaczmarek, PhD. – International Alumni Relations Officer, representative of the Alumni Association and Jerome Shibu Joseph – 2nd year student of medicine – English Division. They congratulated the students on choosing the MUG because of University’s high profile and prestige in becoming its alumni. The matriculation was chaired by Rector Gruchała, while the oath ceremony was conducted by the Dean of the Faculty Prof. Radosław Owczuk. The three students who got the highest numer of points in the recruitment process received congratulatory letters from the Rector, the Dean of the Faculty and the Deputy Dean, dr. hab. Paweł Zagożdżon, University Professor.

Faculty of Health Sciences with the Institute of Maritime and Tropical Medicine

Students of the first years of the following faculties: dietetics, electroradiology, physiotherapy, nursing, nursing – English Division, obstetrics, health psychology, emergency medicine, public health – health system management and environmental health, have also been officially admitted to the students community of the Medical University of Gdańsk. 525 newly admitted students took part in the ceremony.

During the event that took place on September 30th this year, the following members of the Faculty authorities were present: Dean of the Faculty Prof. Przemysław Rutkowski, M.D., PhD; Deputy Dean for Science and Staff Development, first deputy of the Dean Prof. Piotr Lass, PhD.; Deputy Dean for Teaching Affairs Prof. Piotr Wąż, PhD and Deputy Dean for Quality of Education and Students Training – dr hab. Agnieszka Zimmermann, Pharm.D.

Honorable guests at the ceremony were: Vice-Rector for Development and Education Prof. Jacek Bigda, M.D., PhD. – first deputy of the Rector; Vice-Rector for Clinical Affairs Prof. Edyta Szurowska, M.D., PhD.; Dean of the Faculty of Medicine Prof. Radosław Owczuk, M.D., PhD.; Dean of the Faculty of Pharmacy Prof. Wojciech Kamysz, Pharm.D. and Dean of the Intercollegiate Faculty of Biotechnology UG & MUG dr hab. Ewelina Król, PhD., University of Gdańsk Professor.

The matriculation was hosted by the Dean of the Faculty prof. Przemysław Rutkowski, while other speeches were delivered by: Vice-Rector prof. Jacek Bigda and Deputy Dean prof. Piotr Lass. They welcomed the newly admitted students at our University and congratulated them on their great results in the recruitment process. Professor Przemysław Rutkowski read the oath in Polish and in English. Students took the oath and became members of the MUG community. Then the Dean congratulated the students who got the highest number of points in the recruitment process in the fields of: dietetics, electroradiology, physiotherapy, nursing, nursing – English Division, obstetrics, health psychology, emergency medicine, environmental health and public health – health system management. At the end of the ceremony new students were welcomed into the community by the chairman of the Faculty Student Council.
