Orientation week 2020

25.09.2020

Over 250 new students from all over the world participate in an international Orientation Week at the MUG. Through the whole week (September 24th-30th) they will take part in series of meetings which aim to bring the specific and quality of studying at our university and help them to settle in a foreign country and city. This year, because of the safety reasons and due to pandemic time the OW is being held on-line – all meetings and seminars are delivered to the students by the streaming platform directly to their place of stay. The host of the main event is Mrs. Marzena Kołtoniak, an officer of the Welcome Point of MUG.

Orientation Week began with the introductory speeches by the Vice-Rector for Student Affairs Tomasz Smiatacz, M.D., Ph.D., D.Sc. and the Mayor of the City of Gdansk Mrs. Aleksandra Dulkiewicz.

The group of our new students includes both students starting English-language studies in medicine, nursing, pharmacy and participants of international exchange, including under the Erasmus + Program.

They’ve travelled to Gdańsk from all over the world – Sweden, Norway, Germany, India, Ghana, Zimbabwe, Kenya, Malawi, Iran, Saudi Arabia, Syria, Sudan, Nigeria, Kenya, Tanzania and Great Britain. Every morning students are able to “meet” their colleagues from older years, get to know about student organizations or get useful information transport, health insurance or visa and registration issues required in our country. They may also enjoy a new form of a Guided Tour conducted in the new way – ‘on-line’ via the website – among the MUG facilities. The enjoyable and social program also includes short-time classes of polish language with teachers from the Foreign Languages Department and fruitful visits in the Admission Office. Between 28th – 30th of September students are going to take part in the first time organized on-line integration game called ‘Spy game’ – a special event for all new academic society as a new form of an Integration Party. Each year the Integration Party was organized by the ‘Lucky 13’ – 13 Pomeranian universities gathered together under the “Study in Pomorskie” Project. Last party has been organized in 2019 at the CSG Centrum Stocznia Gdańska for more over 1000 new students.

By a tutor care of older colleagues – present students from MUG with the support of students organizations have also organized a city game for the newcomers all along the city of Gdansk of course in compliance with the safety rules!
