The international summer school (Nordic-Baltic Region University Research Course) for doctoral students who conduct research on cardiovascular diseases was held on September 19th-21st 2019 in Gdańsk. The “Hypertension and cardiovascular disase: focus on brain, cognition, stroke and sympathetic nervous system activity” course was organized by international hypertension societies and the Medical University of Gdańsk.
A number of 50 doctoral students from Sweden, Norway, Finland, Denmark, Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia, Russia and Poland, together with 21 lecturers from 11 countries participated in the course. Three former presidents of the European Society of Hypertension, including Prof. Krzysztof Narkiewicz, head of the Department of Hypertension and Diabetology at the MUG and president-elect of the World Society of Hypertension were also among the participants.
As part of the workshop, each of the doctoral students had the opportunity to present their project to a group of colleagues from other countries and to the expert panel. The participants of the course were very impressed with the infrastructure of the University Clinical Centre and the research potential of the MUG. Another summer school for doctoral students from the Baltic Sea region will be held in Denmark.
