Jacek Kot, Ph.D., D.Sc., Head of the Department of Hyperbaric Medicine & Maritime Rescue at the MUG was appointed the new chairman of the European Underwater and Baromedical Society.

An annual scientific conference of the European Society of Hyperbaric Medicine (EUBS) was held in Tel Aviv from 9th to 12th September 2019. The ECHM was founded in Italy in 1991 and from the very beginning it brings together the physicians-practitioners professionally active in hyperbaric medicine. The main goal of the organization is to determine the indications for hyperbaric oxygen treatment (HBOT), work standards and training principles for the medical staff of hyperbaric centres. The ECHM regularly organizes workshops on hyperbaric medicine. Furthermore, every 10 years it also organizes the European Compliance Conferences during which clinical indications for HBOT are discussed and defined. The last such conference took place in 2016 in Lille (France), and its findings were published in the Diving & Hyperbaric Medicine Journal (www.DHMJournal.com ) in accordance with evidence-based medicine (EBM) and the principles of clinical evidence quality assessment (GRADE):

  • Mathieu D, Marroni A, Kot J. Tenth European Consensus Conference on Hyperbaric Medicine: recommendations for accepted and non-accepted clinical indications and practice of hyperbaric oxygen treatment. Diving and Hyperbaric Medicine. 2017 March;47(1):24-32. PMID: 28357821
