The First Doctoral School was established at the Medical University of Gdańsk. It is an organized form of education in the following disciplines: medical sciences, pharmaceutical sciences and health sciences. A resolution in this matter was taken by the University Senate at its meeting on May 27th 2019.

The recruitment for the MUG’s Doctoral School will commence on the July 1st, whereas the doctoral education itself will start on the October 1st 2019. Prof. Jacek Witkowski, the head of the Department of Physiopathology was appointed the School’s Headmaster.

The Doctoral School Council operates as the part of the Doctoral School. It consists of the headmaster of the school and its deputies, the chairman of the disciplinary councils or their elected deputies, deans or the appointed deputy deans involved in the implementation of the doctoral school education.

The establishment of the MUG Doctoral School is directly related to the implementation of the governmental Act 2.0. Previous doctoral studies (the 3rd level studies) have been replaced with the education of Ph.D. students in doctoral schools. Doctoral studies that commenced before academic year 2019/2020 will be conducted on the current principles, however, no longer than until December 31st, 2023.

The doctoral school will be run by the entire university, and not – as in the case of doctoral studies – an eligible university unit. The division between full-time and external studies will no longer exist and the doctoral school will be free of charge for all Ph.D. students. Each participant of the doctoral school will receive a scholarship.
