The MUG among the best universities in Poland

In the jubilee, 20th edition of the Ranking of Academic Universities 2019 of the Educational Foundation “Perspektywy”, the Medical University of Gdańsk (MUG) was once again classified as one of the leading Polish academic universities, occupying a high 8th place ex-aequo with the University of Wroclaw and the Lodz University of Technology.
The solemn announcement of results along with the awarding of diplomas to the best faculties and departments will take place on June 12th this year at 12 PM in Warsaw. Prof. Tomasz Bączek, Vice-Rector for Science at the MUG will be present during the event.
– This year, as in previous years, our university has maintained a high position among the best universities in the country, being in the top ten Polish academic centres – says Prof. Tomasz Bączek. – This is a confirmation that the MUG is not only a university that guarantees the highest level of education but is also a prominent research centre with internationally recognized scientific activity.
This year, the Award Committee did not announce a list specifically dedicated to medical schools. Therefore, the results of last year’s ranking are still binding. This means that the Medical University of Gdańsk is still the leading medical school in Poland, sharing the honorable first place with the Collegium Medicum of the Jagiellonian University.
The MUG did equally well in the list of evaluated criteria. It was ranked 2nd in terms of the number of scientific publications, 5th in the field of scientific effectiveness, measured, among others, by the number of citations and took 7th place in the scientific potential.category.
For many years now the Medical University of Gdańsk has been consistently implementing the development strategy in the field of scientific and innovative activities. The high position in the ranking of categorizations of individual departments in external parametric evaluation confirms the MUG’s leading role in the field of scientific and research activity. This is itself is a huge success. What is more, the Pharmaceutical Faculty of OML and Intercollegiate Faculty of Biotechnology of UG and MUG received a prestigious A+ category of which we can be really proud. Other faculties, such as the Faculty of Medicine and the Faculty of Health Sciences with the Interdepartmental Institute of Maritime and Tropical Medicine were awarded with the A category. The University is also in a leading position when it comes to the number of scientific publications in the field of medical and health sciences. The publications of our researchers are among the most frequently cited in prestigious scientific journals.
The ELSEVIER Research Impact Leaders Award which, received by the MUG in both 2017 and 2018, stands as a confirmation of the University’s high position in the internationally recognizable scientific activity is the GUMed in 2017 and 2018.
