On the 31st of May we celebrated the 25th anniversary of the first allogeneic bone marrow transplantation performed in Gdańsk. The event took place at the University Clinical Centre, the MUD hospital and was crowned by the concert of the Singing Kaczmarek Family.

It is notable that on May 30, 1994, when the transplant took place, the University Clinical Centre became the first Northern and fourth transplant centre of bone marrow in Poland.

- Back then we felt the same way as if we wanted to launch our own Polish space rocket and send our first patient into the ‘transplation’ outer space. We came prepared, sent the patient out there, he flew and safely returned with a healthy bone marrow – said prof. Jan Maciej Zaucha, Head of the Department of Hematology and Transplantology, UCK, the MUD hospital.

Prof. Marcin Gruchała, Rector of the Medical University of Gdańsk, Jakub Kraszewski, general director of UCK, along with Piotr Kowalczuk, Deputy President of the City of Gdańsk were all present during the ceremony and congratulated the University Clinical Centre on the years of their continuous success.
