This years National Student Cardiology Conferenceis behind us. The event, which took place on 17-18 May this year in Atheneum Gedanense Novum was a place for future medical talents and young doctors interested in cardiology and cardiosurgery. This time over 100 cardiology enthusiasts from 9 academic centers in Poland participated in it.
The conference was opened by the Rector of the Medical University of Gdańsk, prof. Marcin Gruchała, who gave a lecture on “Does family history matter?” 45 students presented their work in six sessions, including two in English. The winners were selected by a jury chaired by prof. Ewa Lewicka from the Department of Cardiology & Electrotherapy of the MUG.
During the event, scientific competitions were held in oral and poster sessions in the field of conservative, paediatric and invasive cardiology. In the oral session of cardiology conducted in English (original works), the student of the medical faculty (English Division) Jakob Meryn turned out to be the best. In the oral session of cardiology in English (clinical cases) Zofia Lasocka, a fifth year student of the medical faculty, took the second place.
In the poster session of conservative cardiology, Barbara Nawrocka from the scientific circle of dental surgery received a prize for the work “The influence of the oral cavity on cardiovascular disease – the assessment of the awareness of dentists and students of the medical and dental field”. The study assessed perception and awareness of the impact of oral inflammation on the development of the cardiovascular disease. The study was conducted among dentists and students of the medical and dental field. The authors are: Barbara Nawrocka and Kamil Wojciechowski from scientific circle of dental surgery, Paulina Adamska, M.D., and dr hab. Anna Starzyńska, M.D., Ph.D., head of Department of Oral Surgery. In the poster session of invasive cardiology and cardiosurgery, the second place went to Jakub Osowski (4th year, medical faculty), Wioleta Kurpińska-Kac (4th year, medical faculty) and Natalia Sobczyk (5th year, medical faculty).
