MUG without plastics

Medical University of Gdańsk joins “Gdansk without plastic” campaign started by the Gdańsk city authorities. The aim of this action is to limit the plastic use and support a pro-ecological attitude. 10 basic rules have been worked out to change one’s habits. Define how to easily reduce plastic bags and cups use, dishes or cutlery in everyday life.

Our University will conduct educational activities ensuring MUG’s employees to use glass bottles instead plastic mineral water bottles, replace food plastic containers with jars and material bags for shopping. Organised on 12 April “Science for Health – MUG’s Open Day” will be the 1st day to implement the above recommendations. Participants will use cardboard cups and glass water bottles. The ambassadors of the activities are prof. Lidia Wolska, Ph.D., head of the Department of Environmental Toxicology together with the Student Scientific Circle and dr. Aleksandra Rutkowska from Department of Nursing Management and Detoxed Home.

According to the World Health Organization (WHO) reports, constant exposure of people to this chemical substances, which are similarity in structure to natural hormones may disturb their effects, increases the risk of hormonal disorders and civilization diseases, such as obesity, diabetes, cardiovascular diseases, fertility disorders, hormone dependent cancers (breast, prostate and testicular cancer).

We will keep the MUG’s employees and students informed about further initiatives.
