The new UCC Children's Intensive Therapy Care Unit

The University Clinical Centre, MUG hospital has new Children’s Intensive Therapy Department. The third such unit in Pomorskie Voivodeship with the most modern medical equipment, cost more than 1 million PLN. Pediatric Intensive Care hospitalizes intensive care patients (under 18 years of age) who required severe general condition, respiratory, circulatory or multi-organ failure.

There are 6 paediatric clinics in UCC which patients may need intensive care:

  • Department of Neonatology,
  • Department of Paediatrics, Nephrology and Hypertension,
  • Department of Paediatric Cardiology and Congenital Heart Defects,
  • Department of Developmental Neurology,
  • Department of Paediatrics, Haematology and Oncology,
  • Department of Pediatrics, Diabetology and Endocrinology.

The new unit has a modern equipment for monitoring and maintaining basic vital functions: cardiomonitors, ventilators, infusion pumps, renal replacement therapy apparatus, bronchofiberoscope and many others. There are 4 adjustable paediatric beds (ca 50 000 PLN each) and two modern incubators for the youngest children.

The Pediatric Intensive Care Unit has been operating since January 1, 2019, but the official opening took place on February 13. In ceremony participated:

  • Małgorzata Zadorożna – deputy director, Department of Medical Qualifications and Science of Ministry of Health,
  • prof. Edyta Szurowska, M.D., Ph.D. – vice-rector of Clinical Affairs of MUG,
  • Jakub Kraszewski – general director of UCC,
  • prof. Radosław Owczuk, M.D., Ph.D. – anaesthesiology and intensive care national consultant, head of the Departament of Anaesthesiology & Intensive Care of MUG,
  • Arkadiusz Lendzion – deputy director general for administration and technology of UCC,
  • Anna Czarnecka – president of the Regional Chamber of Nurses,

and representatives of paediatric clinics and hospital administration.
