The last newborn baby in the hospital in Kliniczna Street

5.02.2019

The last newborn baby in the hospital on Kliniczna Street was born 5 minutes to 8 a. m. on the 4th of February by caesarean section. A few hours later, an official greeting of the newborn child and a symbolic farewell to the historical hospital took place. The last child born in the hospital on Kliniczna Street is Józef, who weighs 3,4 kg and received 10 points on the Apgar scale. The hospital operated for over 100 years – even during the II World War – and more than a quarter of a million children were born there.

The symbolic farewell to the hospital and the greeting of the last historical newborn baby were attended by: Aleksandra Dulkiewicz – acting mayor of Gdańsk, prof. Marcin Gruchała, M.D. Ph.D., – rector of MUG, Jakub Kraszewski – general director of UCC, prof. Krzysztof Preis – head of the Department of Obstetrics MUG, dr Iwona Domżalska-Popadiuk Ph.D. – head of the Department of Neonatology MUG, Anastasia Kalogridou-Błajet – superior of nurses and midwifes of UCC and very proud and moved father Krzysztof Grabowski.

The new hospital will have 1-2 person rooms with bathrooms, a 9-bed isolation unit, a obstetrics and neonatal unit (18 beds), aseptic obstetrics unit (20 beds) and a pregnancy pathology unit (20 beds). There will be also 6 labour wards, 3 rooms for caesarean section and additonal rooms for increased supervision. At the University Clinical Centre medical care is available to pregnant women with normal course as well as those whose pregnancy is at risk.

The new labour wards will be opened from the 7th of February 2019 in the Non-invasive Medicine Centre at Smoluchowskiego 17 Street.
